FDLE investigating inmate death at Bradford County Jail

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the death of Johnathan Altman, 38, who died Thursday morning at the Bradford County Jail in Starke after being found unresponsive in his cell. Altman had been restrained by corrections deputies the night before following a reported refusal to comply with instructions, was transported to a hospital for low oxygen levels, then returned to the jail and placed in a cell under periodic supervision. The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a parallel internal review, and the Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
