Gainesville-area residents join Great Southeast Pollinator Census

Dozens of participants gathered at sites including the Butterfly Sanctuary at the Gainesville Garden Clubhouse and the Pollinator Victory Garden in Micanopy to count bees, butterflies, and other pollinators as part of the Great Southeast Pollinator Census. Observers spent roughly 30 minutes tallying insects landing on flowers, and the data collected was forwarded to a UF gardening research center in Ocala to help scientists track pollinator populations. The free, all-ages event also included educational sessions on native plants found in North Central Florida gardens.
