Judge finds Florida property tax amendment ballot language defective, orders rewrite

A Leon County circuit judge ruled Tuesday that the ballot summary for Amendment 3 — a proposed constitutional change that would raise Florida’s homestead exemption to $250,000 for non-school taxes beginning in 2028 — used advocacy language that courts have long prohibited. Judge David Frank ordered the wording rewritten, though the amendment itself will remain on the November ballot. The Florida attorney general is expected to draft new title and summary language.
