GPD warns drivers to slow down as Alachua County schools reopen Aug. 10

The Gainesville Police Department is stepping up patrols in school zones ahead of the first day of school on August 10, asking motorists to allow extra travel time during the opening weeks of the semester. Officers reminded drivers that failing to stop for a school bus carries fines between $346 and $564, texting in an active school zone draws a $159 citation, and speeding in a school zone can cost up to $599.
