6.1 magnitude earthquake off Cuba shakes North Central Florida

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake centered off the western coast of Cuba sent tremors across North Central Florida on Monday afternoon, with residents reporting shaking lasting up to 30 seconds. At least one Williston home sustained minor damage, and the tremors were felt as far north as Tallahassee and as far south as Miami, Tampa, and Orlando. A University of Florida geophysics professor commented on how the direction of seismic energy travels from a distant epicenter.
