Gainesville man gets 7-year federal sentence after drug and gun arrest

A Gainesville man, Khalil Barnett, 30, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug and firearm charges. The case began when Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance last August and Barnett fled, dropping a loaded firearm and roughly 600 grams of marijuana during the chase. Federal prosecutors subsequently took over the case, resulting in the prison term.
